04 Jan Southend students have launched a student radio station
Three students from South Essex College have launched a student radio station.
Jack Burke, Jordan Kennedy and Jake Medland, all Level 3 Broadcast Media students at the College’s Southend Campus, created Icon radio to give students a chance to gain valuable and practical work experience.
Alongside a dedicated team of student hosts and with expert help from Radio Essex advisors, the team have created a station run by students for students.
Jack, 18, from Billericay, said: “We wanted to give young people an opportunity to express themselves without boundaries through radio. We’ve created lots of different shows with music and chat to keep things varied for listeners..
“Being in the studio and actually managing the desk is a great way to learn the craft.”
Based in the College’s radio studio, the station runs during the day and students can listen online by visiting www.iconradio.co.uk/
