22 Dec #Southend: Blues first team players meet young patients
The Blues squad visited Southend Hospital on Tuesday in the build up to Christmas to meet patients and staff and spread some festive spirit.
The players put plenty of smiles on the faces of children in the Neptune Ward and Paediatric Assessment Unit and were also on hand to deliver gifts, signed balls and complimentary match tickets for a game of choice next year.
Manager Phil Brown was there with first team members and said it was the least they could do.
“It’s always a sad time when you see the children in their beds with an illness or whatever it is. It’s never nice to be away from your loved ones.
“I think the hospital do a fantastic job. I’ve been here every year at Christmas since I’ve been at the club and I think it’s grown with regards to the players.
“I remember when I first arrived we had maybe half a dozen lads turn up, but every one of the squad has been here today and everyone wants to give their time up for the kids because it’s a small sacrifice to make a difference.”
