31 Jan ‘Sofa’ a new play exploring memory will be coming to Chelmsford next month

‘Sofa’ a new play exploring memory, will be coming to Chelmsford’s Cramphorn Studio on Wednesday 20 Febuary at 8pm.

The play is part inspired by real life events and by experience and delves into the shared memories of a brother and sister, Mark and Rachel, as they reflect on their father who had dementia. The play which uses storytelling, puppetry, physical theatre and the most versatile sofa in the universe, investigates memory and how it shifts and changes from person to person. Mark and Rachel return to their old family house and realise that the sofa is the centre of the home, where as children new worlds are created, a place to seek solace as adults, and where we laugh, play, cry and discover.

‘Sofa’ has been hailed as ‘Powerful and very clever’ by the British Theatre Guide, which has also noted the ‘brilliant original music’. Sofa was written by Jacqueline Avery, who also stars in the play along with Laurence Aldridge, who wrote the music, and the play is produced by The Makeshift Ensemble.
