Sir Eric Pickles visits the Brentwood Centre

26 Feb Sir Eric Pickles visits the Brentwood Centre

Brentwood and Ongar MP Sir Eric Pickles took time to visit the Brentwood Centre last week (Friday 24th February) to look at the new inclusive facilities and join the preparations for last week’s Heart Essex Wedding Show.

Sir Eric was shown around the centre by CEO Roger Davinson.

Mr. Pickles also had the time to visit the new Brentwood Centre swimming changing village complete with the centre’s third Changing Places toilet for people with profound disabilities and others who need additional support to meet their personal care needs.

The toilet has a bench and hoist so that people can change in dignity.

The Changing Places initaitve was founded for the over 1/4 of a million people who cannot use standard accessible toilets. This includes people with profound and multiple learning disabilities, motor neurone disease, multiple sclerosis, cerebral palsy, as well as older people.

To use the toilet in safety and comfort, many people need to be able to access a Changing Places, which have more space and the right equipment, including a height adjustable changing bench and a hoist.
