Show Me The Honey at Chelmsford Museum

15 May Show Me The Honey at Chelmsford Museum

The much-loved bees at Chelmsford Museum are returning to their hive after their winter hibernation. To celebrate this event, the museum is hosting a special ‘Show Me the Honey’ week running from Monday 28 May to Friday 1 June, at Chelmsford Museum, Oaklands Park, Moulsham Street, Chelmsford.

With the bees settling back into their hive, children will have the opportunity to learn about the life of bees, how they communicate and bee – have with each other, all delivered in a fun and playful style by the bee experts. As well as indoor activities there will be a ‘buzz around the park’ where you can help record all the bees at Oaklands Park using the Friends of the Earth Great British Bee Count app.  Try a pollen quiz, learning about the world of bees, honey tasting, dressing up, candle making, and an insect museum with some special, rarely seen specimens from the museum’s collection.

There will be two ‘Show Me The Honey’ sessions each day during the school half-term, with the first session running from 10am to 12.30pm, and the second session starting at 1.30pm to 4pm. The event is ideal for children aged between 3 and 12 and has been designed to engage all of their senses. Admission is £5 for participating children.  Please note that if children aged between 13 and 15 would like to take part they will need to purchase a £5 ticket. Tickets must be booked in advance, including free admissions, at www.chelmsford.gov.uk/museums.
