30 Jul Sheltered housing residents pot funding to tackle loneliness in Basildon
A group of sheltered housing residents are celebrating the installation of a full size pool table after receiving £2,400 funding from the Nevendon Neighbourhood Association.
Nevendon Senior Social Club (NSSC) was formed two years ago for the benefit of those living in seven Wickford complexes – Keats Way, Elliot Close, Spencers Court, Meadow Court, Bradwell Court, Pine Close and Halstead Court. The 12-strong committee work closely with Basildon Councill’s Community Involvement Team to secure external funding for projects aimed at tackling loneliness and social exclusion.
The committee are currently in the process of organising a timetable of pool matches for residents to make best use of the new table. Previous funding from the Nevendon Neighbourhood Agreement has been put towards the launch of weekly art classes and a darts club.
If you have an idea for future social activities and events or require help securing funding for an existing club contact Heather Wood, Community Development Officer at Basildon Council, on 01268 208072.
