Second community tree planting day to be held in Harlow

03 Jan Second community tree planting day to be held in Harlow

Residents and groups are invited to plant a tree for Harlow at a second community tree planting day to be held in Sumners Park on Sunday 19 January 2020.

The event will take place from 10am to 3pm. Residents and groups will join local councillors and council staff to help create and look after a new community grove around the mound in Sumners Park.

The event is open to anyone. Council officers will be on hand to provide help and advice. Each group of residents will be allocated an hour to plant a group of trees.

On 15 December the council held its first community tree planting day in Bush Fair where around 100 people helped plant 1,003 trees in one day.

Councillor Mark Ingall, Leader of Harlow Council, said: “This is another great opportunity for residents and groups to be a part of our town’s future and do their bit to tackle climate change. The first community tree planting event was such a success with us meeting our annual tree planting target in just one day! Back in July the council passed a motion that declared a climate emergency. I was determined that this would not just be an empty declaration, but that real environmental improvements would follow from it. To that end we pledged to work with residents to plant new trees across the town.”
