29 Jul Roding Valley High School recognised for commitment to careers at national awards
Roding Valley High School has been named as a finalist at the national RateMyApprenticeship Awards 2019 for Best Collaboration between a School and Employer, alongside award-winning construction company, Hill Group. The awards, which took place on Thursday 18 July, brought together apprentices, schools, employers and training providers to celebrate success in the apprenticeship sector. Roding Valley High School was recognised at the event for its fantastic partnerships with employers, specifically in helping students understand and undertake apprenticeships.
Donna Mason, Careers Development Manager at Roding Valley High School said: “Although we didn’t win, it was a fantastic event and we feel very lucky to have been supported by Hill over the past few years. It was a pleasure to see Hill recognised for all its time and effort with all year groups and we can’t wait to see two of our students join Hill in September on its sponsored degree programme; joining six of our ex-pupils already employed there. Engaging with employers and supporting students into their first job, apprenticeship, or onto university is a big part of the Roding Valley High School student journey.”
Roding Valley High School places emphasis on the importance of career readiness through a number of initiatives that take place throughout the year. Year 10 students at the school recently enjoyed taking part in the school’s Careers Week, which included activities such as Take Your Child to Work Day, career advice workshops and A-Level taster sessions.
Sharon Jenner, Head Teacher at Roding Valley High School, said: “At Roding Valley High School, we are passionate about giving our students the best chance of succeeding in life. A great deal of hard work goes into achieving this, so I feel incredibly proud that we have been recognised at the awards. Thank you especially to the staff at Hill Group for partnering with us and passing on all their knowledge to our pupils, and our fantastic careers expert, Donna; we couldn’t have done it without them.”
