24 May Rising Star Multi-Instrumentalist edbl To Release New Live Album Via PX Records
Singer-songwriter, producer and multi-instrumentalist edbl, a much in-demand young artist on track to become one of the UK’s most prolific collaborators, is set to release a new album recorded at PizzaExpress Live, which will be the fourth release on the newly formed PX Records label. In only two years of releasing music, edbl (real name Ed Black), has released music with more than twenty-five artists (including Kofi Stone, Conor Albert, Isaac Waddington and many more) and has been quietly building a name for himself as a musical maverick, amassing over 40 million streams across the globe in the process.
edbl at PizzaExpress Live in London features a mixture of original compositions including the funk infused lead single ‘Cigars’ as well as laid back covers of tracks including Lemar’s ‘If There’s Any Justice’. With his roots as a session musician, Ed strives to keep his sound as live as possible and aside from the drums, everything you hear on each track – from the keys and guitar to the trumpet – is a live performance. The result is a free-flowing pool of textured sounds, each collaboration teeming with natural synergy and languid melodies.
Since its inception in Soho in the late ‘70s, PizzaExpress Live has built a reputation as one of the UK’s leading destinations for live music, presenting over 50,000 concerts from an array of global stars including the likes of Tony Bennett, Amy Winehouse, Diana Krall, Van Morrison, Bill Wyman, Benny Carter, Brian May, George Shearing, Charlie Watts, Mose Allison, Anita O’Day and Melody Gardot. Also responsible for hosting the first UK concerts from a long line of musicians who have gone on to become international star acts – including Jamie Cullum, Norah Jones and Gregory Porter to name a few – PizzaExpress Live has become a celebrated London institution synonymous with the very best jazz and soul music.
The first run of PX Records releases feature albums from edbl, master US saxophonist Scott Hamilton, incendiary UK soul outfit Mamas Gun, and one of the most hotly-tipped new bands on the UK scene Native Dancer. In addition, the label will release a series of legacy recordings sourced from PizzaExpress Live’s extensive archive dating back over 45 years and featuring previously unreleased performances from some of the legendary acts to have graced its stage.
edbl at PizzaExpress Live in London is released on June 16th 2023.
