21 Feb REVIEW: Channels Lodge – A little heaven on earth
By Dan Bryans
If you are looking for a home away from home then Channels Lodge in Little Waltham might be very well worth a visit. After a week of photo calls, film shoots and press events I was ready to let my hair down so I thought what better way than a lovely visit to Channels with a colleague.
Location:
Located on the outskirts of Chelmsford it offers all the benefits of city life whilst being a hidden retreat offering a lovely opulent atmosphere. It’s not far at all from the town centre, For me it was a train journey into Chelmsford followed by a 5 minute taxi ride.
Accommodation:
You can immediately discover the character if the history of the lodge, my room was decorated to an extremely high level with no expense speared, having style fit for presidential standards. The rooms had a very executive feel to them which is very ideal for business users who wish to have a lavish undisturbed time away or a couple on a honeymoon, however visiting with young children might not be the most desirable.
Dinner
A tongue-tickling and nerve-rousing menu led to me fighting for choice of what to eat. Being a Friday I was immediately offered the special ‘Fish Friday’ menu which was quite delightful. With a selection of British and traditional diner dishes the restaurant offers a wonderful selection for all moods. For me the deep fried curried Samosa for starters was a must (£5.50), For the mains the Fillet of Scottish salmon with crushed potatoes (£13.50) hit all the right spots for me.
THE VERDICT: 5/5
Channels is a little heaven on earth, if you are seeking an exquisite stay in the heart of Essex why look anywhere else.
How Much? £90 – £130 a night
