13 Jul Residents invited to experience new South Essex sports facilities for free
Members of the public are being invited to the official opening of two exciting new sports facilities.
Brand new 3G football pitches and a state-of-the-art gymnastics hall have opened at Eversley Leisure Centre, Pitsea. To celebrate, the community is being encouraged to try out the facilities as part of a free open day on Sunday 22 July from 12pm – 4pm.
The sports hall at Eversley has been transformed into a contemporary gymnastics facility run by South Essex Gymnastics Club (SEGC). During the open day, visitors are invited to watch a training session from 12pm – 1pm before being treated to a demonstration from some of the club’s elite athletes. From 2pm – 4pm, SEGC will also host a series of taster sessions that will give people the opportunity to get active, have fun and try out the new equipment. Places must be booked in advance by emailing [email protected]
Everyone Active has also partnered with Bowers & Pitsea Football Club to host a number of local friendlies on the new 3G turf between 12pm – 1.30pm. The pitches will then be opened up to the public from 2.30pm – 4pm, who are invited to take part in games, penalty shootouts, crossbar challenges and walking football sessions.
Basildon Council has invested £570,000 into the renovation of Eversley Leisure Centre, and the Mayor of Basildon, Cllr David Dadds, will officially cut the ribbon and welcome people to the open day. South Essex Gymnastics Club also invested £230,000 into the gymnastics hall, and a contribution of more than £123,900 was made by Veolia Pitsea Marshes Maintenance Trust towards the project.
