Remembrance ribbons to mark Baby Loss Awareness Week in Clacton

23 Sep Remembrance ribbons to mark Baby Loss Awareness Week in Clacton

A vibrant Remembrance Ribbon Display will be on show at Memorial Garden in Clacton-on-Sea to mark Baby Loss Awareness Week 2020. After the success of last year, Maria Gormley is working with Sands, Stillbirth & neonatal death charity to raise awareness of pregnancy and baby loss in Essex during the week of 9th-15th October. It will see the tying of pink, blue and white ribbons onto the railing again this year with all baby names inscribed, in remembrance of all babies gone too soon.

Caring residents and many others across the country are kindly knitting and crocheting pink, blue and white ribbons and teddy bears to support the event. For a suggested £5 donation, businesses can sponsor a teddy to be added to the display with a small tag attached to each with the name of the sponsor. Maria has already raised over £2,600 towards her £3,000 target for the event. The annual awareness week, now in its 18th year, is an opportunity for bereaved parents, families and friends, to commemorate babies’ lives and raise awareness about pregnancy and baby loss to drive for the improvements.

Maria Gormley, said: “We hope that our event will spark conversations about baby loss and give local bereaved parents and families an opportunity to talk about their precious babies.”

Clea Harmer, Chief Executive of Sands (Stillbirth and Neonatal Death charity), said: “Baby Loss Awareness Week is a unique opportunity for parents to remember their babies who died, and I hope Maria Gormley’s Ribbon Display will help bereaved families in Clacton-on-Sea feel less isolated and alone in their grief.”

“Pregnancy loss or the death of a baby is a tragedy that affects thousands of people every year. It is devastating for parents and families and it’s vital they get the bereavement support and care they need, for as long as they need it,” she added.

If any local businesses, no matter how big or small, would like to support Maria’s Baby Loss Awareness Remembrance Ribbon Display by sponsoring a teddy bear, please email maria.gormley@sands.org.uk or visit the JustGiving page: www.justgiving.com/fundraising/ribbon-remembrance
