@recycleforessex: #Recycle Week 2016: think of the ‘unusual suspects’

12 Sep @recycleforessex: #Recycle Week 2016: think of the ‘unusual suspects’

With Recycle Week taking place between 12 and 18 September, Recycle for Essex is urging residents to think of the ‘unusual suspects’ which more often than not don’t make it into the recycling bin.
While most people remember to recycle plastic drinks bottles, food and drinks cans, cardboard boxes and newspapers, other recyclables are missing out, usually because they aren’t associated with recycling.
These are the ‘unusual suspects’ and by remembering to add them to the recycling, eco-conscious residents could do even more to help the environment.
In the bathroom alone, there are toilet roll tubes, empty toothpaste and tissue boxes and plastic bottles which once contained beauty products, such as shampoo and hair conditioner.
In the kitchen, washing up liquid bottles, soap dispensers, bleach bottles and spray cleaners can all be recycled – as long as people remember to remove lids, trigger spray and pump dispenser tops, as these aren’t currently recycled.
Cllr Robert Mitchell, Braintree District Councillor and Chair of Essex Waste Partnership, said: “Recycling is important. The more we all recycle the more we contribute to saving the environment and reducing the cost of using expensive landfill or other treatment sites.
“Recycle Week is an ideal time for Essex residents to really take a fresh look at their recycling habits and to see if there are any opportunities to recycle even more items. There are lots of things that can be recycled but some are lesser known than others, hence us asking everyone to search for, and recycle, the Unusual Suspects.”
