25 Nov Recruitment events, in Chelmsford and Basildon to boost care sector
Two free recruitment events, in Chelmsford and Basildon, are kicking off a campaign to help job seekers find new careers in the care sector.
With hundreds of vacancies each month, apprenticeships, training and a choice of roles in front-line, back office, management or specialist services, the care sector offers many rewarding opportunities.
Essex County Council is launching the Gift of Care campaign to help the sector recruit and train more local people into roles in their communities. People starting their careers, looking to change or looking for additional or part-time work are invited to attend to consider giving the gift of care this Christmas.
The first two events are at:
- Chelmsford: Tuesday 29 November, 12-2.30pm
Council Chamber, Chelmsford Civic Centre, Duke St, CM1 1JE - Basildon: Tuesday 6 December, 11am – 1.30pm
St Georges Suite, The Basildon Centre, St Martin’s Place, Basildon SS14 1DL.
More will be held in the New Year.
Councillor Dick Madden, Essex County Council’s Cabinet Member for Adults and Children/ said: “Caring for others is one of the most important and rewarding things you can do and there are hundreds of people across the county – maybe even in your own family – needing help in their daily lives or specialist support.”
Councillor Kevin Bentley, Essex County Council’s Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Economic Growth said: “Our elderly population is growing so the demand for caring people to work in this sector is only going to increase. If you could help and support others or you already have experience of caring, at home or professionally, please consider giving the gift of care this Christmas.”
More than 25 care providers will be represented at the events to talk to job seekers about their current vacancies, the qualities they are looking for in candidates and the benefits and rewards to be had.
Job seekers can also find out about apprenticeships and training, take part in informal interviews and receive 1:1 support.
Some 450 job vacancies are advertised in the sector each month in Essex. Specialist skills in demand include care-giving, home management, social work, care planning, cleaning, working with dementia and mental health, preparing meals and senior care.
New recruits can enter the sector straight from college or as mature candidates.
Within two years, subject to qualifications and experience, they could be managing a team, working in a specialism such as dementia care or working with people who have learning difficulties.
Within three to five years, they could be a registered manager or with additional skills could be on their way to owning their own care home.
