20 Dec Pupils in Barking Riverside create their own gingerbread dream homes thanks to donation from housebuilder
Pupils at Riverside Secondary School in Barking Riverside were treated to a special Christmas treat on 11 December.
Members of the weekly Year 8 Cooking Club used both culinary and artistic skills to decorate their own individual gingerbread houses, which were provided by housebuilder Bellway London.
From piping the icing to placing sweets on roofs, everyone was able to design their biscuit-based home exactly how they wanted.
Danica Reid, Head of Food at Riverside Secondary, said: “Riverside year 8 cooking club students were incredibly excited for their donation of gingerbread houses and enjoyed making a festive dish this Monday. Thank you, Bellway London, for providing this activity for our students.”
Riverside Secondary is located next to Bellway London’s Fielders Quarter development, where hundreds of people have moved into new homes as part of the regeneration of the area.
Bellway London is set to build more than 1,000 new homes within the wider Barking Riverside project. This includes the neighbouring Eastbrooke Village and Westbrooke Village, in addition to the five phases of development at Fielders Quarter.
Dominic Griffiths, Head of Sales for Bellway London at Barking Riverside, said: “Beyond providing new homes in the area, Bellway London is significantly invested in the Barking Riverside community – a vibrant, diverse and welcoming place to live.
“While our role is to provide real homes, the gingerbread houses gave us a fun way to link up with the school to give the pupils a light-hearted Christmas-themed experience.
“Riverside Secondary and the wider Riverside Campus group are great assets to Barking Riverside and offer excellence to local children. Families looking to move to, or within, London should consider coming to have a look around the school, and at our new homes.
“Barking Riverside offers some of London’s best-value new homes and visitors can immediately feel the sense of community that has been established here.”
At Fielders Quarter, which is located off Fielders Crescent, Bellway London has completed all 371 homes in the first two phases of construction, while work is progressing on the 172 homes in phase three, where some residents have been handed the keys to their new homes. Building work is also underway on phase four, which is known as Fielders Quarter West Circus and will comprise 229 homes.
