Residents and business owners in Lower Nazeing are invited to attend a public event being held by Cadent, the UK’s largest gas distribution network, to learn more about essential gas works that are taking place in the village.
The event will give everyone the opportunity to learn more about the necessity for the project and how the work will affect everyone on a day-to-day basis.
From 11am on Tuesday 23 September, customer teams from Cadent will have a gazebo set up on the grass verge at the corner of the shops on Nazeingbury Parade and Langley Green in Lower Nazeing.
The planned activity involves the decommissioning of the current metallic gas pipes – which measure 7km and were originally installed over 100 years ago – and installing tough new pipes which will last for decades, future proofing the local network.
The work is part of a £90m investment this year, which will see more than 300km of gas pipes upgraded across the East of England.
Following consultation with Essex Highways, Cadent has agreed to carry out this essential work between Monday 16 June and Thursday 30 April 2026.
The work – which will be carried out in phases – takes place in Old Nazeing Road, Nazeing Road, Nazeingbury Parade, North Street, Maplecroft Lane, Pecks Hill, St Leonards Road, Tasfield Avenue, Laundry Lane, Arrow Yard, Nursery Road, Paynes Lane, Langley Green, and Lake Road.
Members of the local community can join the Cadent team on Tuesday 23 September, from 11am at Nazeingbury Parade, Nazeing Rd, Nazeing, Waltham Abbey, EN9 2JL. There is no requirement to book a place at the session.
If you smell gas, always ring the National Gas Emergency Service immediately on 0800 111 999*, day or night. Do not assume it is related to these planned works; it may not be and needs to be checked.
