07 Nov Proposed partnership makes green energy more affordable for Basildon residents
100% green electricity and cheaper prices – that will be the offer to residents across Basildon should a proposed energy partnership be approved by councillors next week.
Basildon councillors will discuss a potential partnership with Beam Energy at Policy and Resources committee on Wednesday 13 November.
The partnership could see borough residents able to access energy at cheaper fixed rates than the big six energy providers. Should councillors approve the scheme, residents could save up to £152 per household compared to an average of the big six energy suppliers.
Beam energy also offers 100% green electricity tariffs, sourced from 100% UK solar and wind farms.
Leader of Basildon Council and Chair of the Policy and Resources Committee, Gavin Callaghan, said: “Many people are looking for a greener and cheaper alternative to the Big Six energy companies who have between them around 75% of the market. Through this partnership we can offer all our residents the opportunity to switch easily to a certified supplier of 100% green energy. It also uses all the surplus to keep prices lower.
“This is an offer that has broad appeal right across our borough. Keeping prices low will be a massive benefit to the 6,500 households across the borough that are officially in fuel poverty, which is particularly severe for the most vulnerable members of our community.”
The energy partnership will be discussed at Policy and Resources Committee on 13 November.
