03 Jul Performing arts students at South Essex College wow in local production
Performing Arts Students at South Essex College put on a fantastic production of Friedrich Dürrenmatt’s The Visit for their end of year show.
The second year Level 3 Performing Arts (Acting) students took to the stage to perform the play, written in 1956, to an audience of friends, family, students and staff.
The play tells the story of an enormously wealthy older woman who returns to her former hometown with a dreadful bargain. She offers the townspeople enough money to revitalise their decrepit town of Güllen on one condition; they have to kill the man who got her pregnant, then jilted her.
Students used their creative flair and talent to bring an array of characters to life in the two-hour production which analysed how human nature reacts when temptations of the materialistic world are the reward. When a community is asked to kill a prominent member of the village in cold blood in return for £1 billion, all the morals and ethics start to crumble.
Director and tutor Alex Sciusco said he was incredibly proud of the students.
