10 Aug Only one in ten small businesses in the UK understand what 2050’s net zero targets mean for them
Business leaders have called on ministers to give small businesses clear advice on practical ways to cut their emissions after a survey from Lloyds Bank and The British Chamber of Commerce found that only one in ten understood what the UK’s 2050 net zero target meant for their business practices. The lobby group has also urged government to put more responsibility on larger companies to take more action for driving behavioural change through their supply chains. This comes as concerns around the UK’s ability to meet net zero by 2050 rise, yet 87% of British SMEs are unaware of their carbon impact. Analysing this issue closer to home, the UK’s leading sustainability corporate consultants, SaveMoneyCutCarbon (SMCC) share exactly how businesses can implement actionable steps to accelerate their mission for an eco-friendly environment and demonstrates how this has real-world benefits for businesses across the country.
Even those that have committed to net zero are struggling to implement the right practices to make an impact with research from Accenture finding that 93% of businesses that signed up to net zero targets will not reach their goals if they do not double the pace of their emission reduction by 2030. With a staggering 87% of British SMEs unaware of their carbon impact, SMCC helps customers to implement the correct green infrastructure to ensure that their entire business model reflects their goals from end to end, and deliver tangible results; like they did for Holden Group, a car dealership based in East Anglia.
Holden Group employed SaveMoneyCutCarbon’s services to install over £500,000 in solar panels to power its various car brands’ showrooms, including Volvo, Kia, Renault, Dacia, Honda, and MG. With 992 panels on Holden Group’s roof, they expect the energy generated to cover almost two-thirds of their yearly energy consumption and achieve a return on investment in 3.6 years. Since the installation of the solar panel system with a capacity 421kwp was completed, Holden Group has already saved the equivalent amount of carbon as planting 634 trees and expect to make 1,205 Metric Tonnes of carbon savings over the next 25 years.
Adrian Guest, Group Project Manager for Holden Group, comments:
“This is a significant investment for the business and demonstrates our commitment to sustainable energy use. All of the brands that we represent are heavily invested in EV technology and cutting carbon is important to us and to our customers.
“We also want to ensure we are investing in our facilities to match the expectations of our franchise partners, colleagues and customers.”
