One lucky Colchester resident to win exclusive performance from a live 40-piece orchestra

17 Jun One lucky Colchester resident to win exclusive performance from a live 40-piece orchestra

The team behind Colchester’s annual Roman River Festival is giving one lucky person in the town the opportunity to win a surprise performance from a 40-piece orchestra for them and their friends and colleagues at their place of work or learning.

The Roman River Festival returns for its Colchester Weekend on 11-14th July, and the very talented Street Orchestra Live will be headlining the opening night of this year’s festival. SOL is a 40-piece orchestra of emerging musicians with a mission to take orchestral music to everyone, anywhere.

Although a relatively new orchestra, SOL has already toured around the North East, North West, London, the East Midlands and East Sussex brightening the days of thousands of people along the way with their inimitable passion for their music, which covers styles from classical, big band, pop and hip-hop.

During their stay in Colchester Street Orchestra Live will be popping up at various locations around the town to entertain the crowds. Their aim is to bring live orchestral music to new audiences, captivating as many people as possible through performances of music of genres and styles and they have previously played in a number of unusual locations including supermarkets, prisons, castles, ships and many other unusual place. Their schedule for their tour of Colchester is closely guarded – the idea is to surprise people with their spontaneous performances in places you wouldn’t expect to see them.

Roman River Music is taking the concept of a pop-up orchestra one step further, giving one person in Colchester the chance to win a visit from Street Orchestra Live at their work place to perform for them and their colleagues. The criteria is simple – the workplace must be within two miles of central Colchester, there must be space for 40 musicians to squeeze into, and the orchestra must be able to visit on either 10th or 11th July.

If you would like to nominate your workplace to receive a visit the Roman River Festival Facebook page for details or email the Roman River team on [email protected] .
