20 Apr Now Just Stop Oil refuses to rule out protest to disrupt King’s coronation
JUST stop Oil has confirmed that it will be staging a protest at the London Marathon on Sunday but denied that it planned to disrupt the event.
Activist Anna Holland, 20, from Newcastle, also hinted that JSO would be mounting a protest at the King’s coronation next month.
She told GB News: “We haven’t disrupted a marathon previously.
“I’m just going to say now: we’re not going to disrupt the marathon”.
Ms Holland, however, said activists would be attending the event: “We do also encourage anyone who’s coming to the marathon to also join us to march for the climate because it’s so important.
“We are disrupting everyday people because we at Just Stop Oil are everyday people, just doing everything that we can to get our government to listen to us and end new oil and gas.”
In a discussion during Breakfast with Isabel Webster and Freddie Gray, she said: “What I’m trying to get across is that Just Stop Oil is fighting for an end to new oil and gas and we’ve tried every other method of making this change happen.
“We’ve tried going on marches, we’ve tried going in competitions, we’ve tried writing letters to Members of Parliament and none of that’s worked.
“I’ve personally tried all of those in my past, but the only way that we can create any sort of change is through disruption to sporting events, to people’s lives.”
Ms Holland added: “I think it’s an incredibly important thing to note that when you say Just Stop Oil’s tactics aren’t working, the fact that we like to post on Twitter has made national news.
“That doesn’t show that our disruptions aren’t working.”
Asked if the group planned to disrupt the King’s coronation, she said: “I can’t answer that. I’m sorry.”
