10 May No Shade, the first-ever BUFF Originals movie heads to Cannes
No Shade, the first-ever BUFF Originals movie production will have its first screening in Cannes where it will screen outside of the prestigious film festival. The invite-only screening is being held at the Hotel Amarante on Saturday the 12th of May. No Shade is not an official selection at the Cannes Film Festival though it has been documented that none of the 100+ selections at this year’s festival is directed by a Brit.
Starring Adele Oni and Kadeem Pearse, No Shade is a romantic drama and marks the directorial debut of Clare Anyiam-Osigwe who puts colourism in the spotlight. In her debut lead role, Oni plays Jade, a British woman coming to terms with her relationships with men and her skin tone. BUFF Originals is the production arm of the British Urban Film Festival, founded by Emmanuel Anyiam-Osigwe who serves as executive producer. Andrew Eluka & Jesse Quinones (Calloused Hands, Cagefighter) serve as co-producers.
In the 71 annual instalments since the Cannes Film Festival was officially founded in the late 1930’s, films that tell stories about people of African descent have been few and far between with only 3 winning the prized Palme d’Or.
No Shade also stars Clare Anyiam-Osigwe, Algie Salmon-Fattahian, Jade Asha, Zephryn Taitte, Sharea Samuels, Fred Lancaster, Shone Romulus, Tenisha White, Lonyo Engele, Veronica Jean Trickett, Chris Preddie, Paula Masterton, Joel Grizzle, Justin Chinyere, Kele Le Roc and Judith Jacob.
The movie will be released to the public in London as the opening night gala of the British Urban Film Festival on Tuesday the 5th of June.
