23 Sep Nine primary schools take part in Decades Day event to celebrate Basildon’s 70th
Nine borough primary schools took part in a special “Decades Day” event at Wat Tyler Country Park on Friday as part of the Basildon at 70 celebrations.
The pupils aged seven to eleven took part in interactive and educational workshops with some of the town’s key partners including Costa Coffee and Signals. They practised their acting skills whilst learning about the Towngate Theatre’s history, they turned their hands to coding and learned how to identify smells and tastes. They even had a chance to work with the Wat Tyler Education Team to create models of what Basildon could look like in the future. You can see these models at the upcoming Basildon Arts Week which opens on Tuesday 24 September at the Towngate Theatre.
The schools taking part included, Greensted Junior School, Eversley Primary, Noak Bridge Primary, Ryedene Primary, St Theresa’s Catholic Primary, Phoenix Primary, Lee Chapel Primary, Vange Primary and Willows Primary School.
Mayor of Basildon Councillor David Burton-Sampson, said: “This was a great opportunity for us to work directly with our local primary school children and partners. They learned about their borough and the new town which is celebrating its 70th anniversary and had lots of fun taking part in the workshops.”
