20 May New route to Channel Islands takes off from London Southend

Blue Islands has today (Monday 20 May) launched new year-round daily flights to Guernsey from London Southend Airport.

As the first 68-seat Blue Islands ATR 72-500 aircraft touched down at London Southend after the inaugural 75-minute flight from the Channel Islands, it was met with a traditional water canon salute.

All passengers in the Departure Lounge waiting for their flights were gifted bags of chocolate fudge from Guernsey Gourmet Foods to celebrate the new route.

We look forward to welcoming visitors from across the airport’s catchment to discover our beautiful island.”

Glyn Jones, Chief Executive Officer of Stobart Aviation, owners of London Southend Airport said “We are delighted that Blue Islands, has chosen London Southend to provide a new route to Guernsey from our fast-growing airport – our sec ond new airline to arrive in May alone! With our own railway station just 100 paces from the terminal door, up to six trains an hour into London in under an hour and our award-winning customer service, we expect our latest route to Guernsey to prove very popular with passengers from London and the South East.”

Guernsey is a great destination with lots to see and do whatever time of the year you choose to visit. Whether you are in the market for an early spring break, a summer beach holiday or an autumn visit when the crowds have gone but the sun may still be shining, the island won’t disappoint.

It has dozens of stunning beaches, adventure sports such as coasteering and rock climbing and the north coast is proving increasingly popular for water sports. Guernsey is also renowned for its food scene. Island-grown produce, like vine tomatoes, mushrooms and peppers, and local seafood appear prominently on menus, so dining out is a real treat.
