New play equipment and outdoor gyms unveiled in Pitsea

27 Feb New play equipment and outdoor gyms unveiled in Pitsea

Families can enjoy new outdoor facilities thanks to a joint improvement programme from Basildon Council and local community group Heart of Pitsea Big Local.

New play equipment including swings, climbing frames and slides has been installed at Winifred Road recreation ground alongside a specially-designed outdoor gym. An additional outdoor gym – complete with an air walker, rower and balance beam – had also been opened in nearby Elm Green.

Further improvements, including the installation of five-a-side and nine-a-side football goalposts, will be funded through Basildon Council’s member investment programme.

The overall project will cost a total of £132,000 to complete, with the majority of the works funded by Heart of Pitsea through a contribution of £104,000 from the Big Lottery Community Fund.

Cllr Kevin Blake, Chairman of the Leisure, Culture and Environment Committee, said: “Residents have been involved throughout this improvement project, having told us that they wanted new outdoor facilities for the whole family to use. It is a great example of partnership working, and I would like to thank Heart of Pitsea for making this happen.

“We understand that parks play a major role in how pleasant the borough looks, and are committed to developing leisure and community facilities to improve the health and wellbeing of our residents.”

Heart of Pitsea Big Local Co-chairs, Sue and Tracey, added: “We are thrilled to be able to fulfil the wishes of the community and at the same time create a lasting legacy for Heart of Pitsea within our area.”
