22 Oct New family restaurant and pub heads to Wickford
A new family-friendly restaurant and pub could be developed in Wickford Town Centre helping to create jobs and improve the evening economy.
Basildon Council exchanged contracts for the conditional sale of land, known as Gibraltar Walk, last week meaning Marston’s PLC can now move forward with the scheme subject to planning permission.
Proposals for the scheme include a restaurant/pub and associated parking alongside the potential for a 38-bedroom hotel.
Cllr Tony Hedley, Basildon Council’s Chairman of the Regeneration Committee, said: “This is a welcome step forward in the regeneration of Wickford Town Centre. It will bring jobs and potentially a much needed hotel to the area. It will also provide a boost to the daytime and evening economy.”
The next step will be for Marston’s to carry out site investigations and consultation ahead of submitting a full planning application.
