24 Jul New art exhibition opens at ACL Essex Harlow
Adult education provider, ACL Essex, launched a new art exhibition at its centre in Harlow on Wednesday 12 July. The exhibition will run until Friday 1 September.
The ACL centre, which is based in Harlow library, will showcase contemporary artwork from learners who took art courses this year.
Learners from Art Drawing and Painting classes at ACL Harlow have been exploring contemporary art, studying the likes of Picasso, Moro and Pollock. These artists have influenced the learners, helping them to develop their own artistic styles.
Lisa Jarentowski, ACL Essex Principal, said: “We have such talented learners at ACL Essex and the exhibition in Harlow is a great way to show off all their hard work. The artwork displayed is the product of dedication, lots of practise and commitment to their work – our learners and their tutors should be proud! Come down to ACL Harlow and take a look for yourself!”
A variety of artwork will be on display, and learners have raved about their courses.
One learner said: “I am new to the class and joined in April. The teacher, Kate, is amazing and I have learnt so much during this time. I have enrolled onto the next course as well.”
Speaking of their tutor Kate, another learner said: “I struggled at first, but through Kate’s support, I began to free up my paint strokes, use larger paint brushes and to use my fingers. My drawing skills have improved considerably since working with Kate, especially my use of perspective. One of the pieces I am showing is one where an understanding of perspective is vital, and I think what I have produced shows that I am beginning to develop this aspect.”
Another learner said: “This is my attempt at reproducing a small segment of a pre-Raphaelite Brother painting, from the mid-Victorian era. The original would have been in oils, but I used acrylics for this. We were helped in class to research our topics and undertake various sketches and planning exercises before completing our works.”
The art exhibition will run in Harlow Library, The High, Harlow CM20 1HA until Friday 1 September.
