20 Jun Much-debated giant red pots to be removed for good from Harlow’s Market Square
Fourteen giant red pots, which have been part of the Town Centre for the last eight years, have been removed today from Market Square.
The pots, which have always divided opinion, are not suitable for trees without the need for constant watering and maintenance.
They have been removed in time for the Big Weekender events (Makers Market, Harlow Carnival and End of the Carnival Show) which will take place in Market Square on 29 and 30 June.
The council will be planting new semi-mature trees in the ground in Market Square later this year. The trees will require significantly less maintenance in the long-term compared to trying to grow and maintain trees in the pots.
The pots will be disposed of by contractors as the condition of them is deteriorating as they near the end of their lifespan.
The pots were installed in Market Square in 2011 by Harlow Renaissance Ltd as part of an improvement project for the area.
