27 Apr Mayor of Witham welcomes Newlands shopping centre refurbishment
An exciting £230,000 refurbishment at Newlands Shopping Centre completed this year by owners NewRiver REIT was hailed a welcome boost to the Witham retail economy, as it was officially unveiled to cheers from local shoppers and retailers.
The refurbishment has created a bright and modern new gateway to the town, said Mayor of Witham Councillor JoAnn Williams as she opened the revitalised mall.
As part of NewRiver’s strategy to improve the centre, three new independent retailers have also moved in, in tandem with the refurbishment. Yaxley Hair and Beauty, Vapers Cove and Hair for You have all recently signed leases, leaving just two retail units currently available at Newlands.
The make-over has focused on revitalising outdoor areas to create a more vibrant and spacious shopping atmosphere, said Newlands Shopping Centre Manager Lorne Campbell.
The work included installing new benches, lighting and bins, planting blossom trees, and installing modern wood-style cladding around individual retail units.
Two large outdated and unsightly canopies made of concrete, metal and glass have been removed, to create a more spacious and welcoming communal areas, in a significant £230,000 investment in Witham by owners NewRiver.
