Southend in Sight invited the local mayor to take part in a group ten-pin bowling session, at CJ’s in Hockley, to commemorate this year’s World Sight Day.
Cllr Nigel Folkard, along with the Mayoress, spent time with each of the 22 bowlers ranging in ages from 21 to 9. The Mayor even had a go at bowling himself – coached by one of Southend in Sight’s volunteers.
Cllr Nigel commented; “I was impressed with how the visually impaired bowlers changed their style according to their eye condition. It was a pleasure to witness first-hand how one of the charity’s I have chosen this year, offers support to the locally blind and partially sighted people”
Bowling activity organiser, Anne Morris, said; “We are so pleased that the Mayor and
Mayoress visited our group today to help raise awareness for World Sight Day. We are all
different ages and abilities, but we support and encourage each other to get the best out of
the game.”
