A man who raped a 14-year-old girl and posted sexual videos of her online, was jailed for five and a half years on Tuesday 20 December.

Denzel Amadi-Jestus, 19 (15.07.97) was found guilty of rape and two counts of sexual activity with a child. He had previously pleaded guilty to making an indecent image of a child, distributing an indecent image of a child, theft and perverting the course of justice.

In the early part of 2015, Amadi-Jestus contacted the 14-year-old victim via Instagram. They started communicating on social media and this led to them meeting up in person. The victim clearly told him at this point that she was 14 years old.

The offences took place at a residential address in Camden. Amadi-Jestus recorded the assaults and the rape. Amadi-Jestus then stole the victim’s mobile phone from her before leaving the scene.

He distributed the video with sexual content to a school friend of the victim and this was reported to police.

Police worked closely with Social Services and an investigation was initiated, with Amadi-Jestus being identified as a suspect for these offences. On 14 May 2015, he was arrested at his home address and further evidence was secured, including the stolen items. He was charged on 23 March 2016.

Whilst on bail, Amadi-Jestus contacted a witness in the case and tried to persuade them to corroborate his false account in an effort to assist his defence. This was reported to police and he was subsequently arrested and charged with perverting the course of justice.

On 27 October, following a trial at Wood Green Crown Court, Amadi-Jestus was convicted of rape and sexual activity with a child. He was remanded in custody and subsequently sentenced on Tuesday, 20 December.

Detective Constable Neil Sutherland, of the Met’s Sexual Offences, Exploitation and Child Abuse Command, said: “I hope that this sentence will prevent any further children’s lives from being irrevocably damaged by this man.

“Amadi-Jestus preyed on a vulnerable girl on social media claiming to be 16 years of age. After raping her, he stole her phone believing that this would prevent his identity and contact details from being discovered. He then callously sought to humiliate her by posting the footage on social media to her school friends.”
