08 Jun Love garden centre works to reduce loneliness with social table
Perrywood Garden Centre in Tiptree is inviting customers to visit its coffee shop every day to meet others at its social table. The social project launched in March and encourages customers to meet new people daily from 9am – 11am.
Perrywood believes that today’s strangers are tomorrow’s friends and is delighted with the number of customers who have taken part in the programme so far. The team are hoping this figure grows even further and has a positive impact within the local community.
*Research shows that loneliness and social isolation are harmful to our health: lacking social connections is a comparable risk factor for early death as smoking 15 cigarettes a day, and is worse for us than well-known risk factors such as obesity and physical inactivity. Loneliness increases the likelihood of mortality by 26%. Perrywood is determined to help those who are suffering from loneliness in Tiptree and the surrounding areas as part of its ongoing health and happiness campaign.
To be part of Perrywood’s social table, all that customers need to do is visit the coffee shop on a day that suits them from 9am-11am, grab a seat at the table and let the socialising begin!
