Local hospice launch recruitment campaign that highlights experiences of current staff

01 Feb Local hospice launch recruitment campaign that highlights experiences of current staff

Haven House Children’s Hospice has launched a new campaign to recruit more nurses by highlighting the experiences of staff that have moved from a hospital to a hospice environment.

The ‘Be the nurse’ campaign aims to attract nurses who are NHS band 5/6 and would like to join the hospice’s care team in Woodford Green.

Haven House wants to support 500 children each year in North and North East London, West Essex and East Hertfordshire by the end of the decade, as part of its five-year strategy, Vision 2020, but to do so it needs to expand its care team.

The hospice has begun to publish a series of blogs from nursing staff in order to raise awareness of the benefits of working in the children’s hospice sector.

Eileen White, Director of Care at Haven House, said: “Our ‘Be the nurse’ campaign is about rediscovering why highly-skilled and accomplished nurses went into the profession in the first place.

“It’s no secret that many nurses in hospital settings are under intense pressure and this is impacting on career prospects.
“We want nurses to know that they do have options and can rediscover the joy of providing one-to-one personalised care within the children’s hospice sector.”

Aisling Kilbane, Practice Nurse Facilitator at Haven House, said: “Many times I have met so many inspirational nurses, people I really admire, along my career path and they all had one thing in common, they listened to their patients and their families, they found the time and they delivered high standards of care.

“That was the nurse I wanted to be and that is why, once I took a deep breath and walked through the door at Haven House, I have never turned back.”
