27 Jan Local Business, Simply raises £3,750 for Quilters Junior School in memory of beloved teacher
Simply, a leading supplier of portable toilets and waste management solutions, celebrated the success of raising an incredible £3,750 as it handed over a cheque to staff and pupils at Quilters Junior School on Thursday 23 January. This celebration saw the Managing Director of Simply, Ruth Napp, and the company’s Director Paul Israel, hand Quilters Junior School’s Headteacher, Michael Wade, a cheque for the generous donation which will be used to fund ‘Sarah’s Garden’ within the school.
On Sunday 8 September 2019, Ruth Napp, Paul Israel and six members of the Simply team walked in John Baron MP’s annual Fun Walk. The Simply team walked the hour long trail alongside the Quilters Junior School team, in memory of Ruth’s sister Sarah Cobb. Sarah was a beloved Quilters Junior School teacher who sadly passed away in 2013. The school has since created ‘Sarah’s Garden’, a beautiful space that is in memory of Sarah.
Every year, the Fun Walk Trust donates money from the bonus pot to the charities and causes that participate in its annual Fun Walk. In 2019, for every £100 raised by the participants, an incredible £50 was donated by the Fun Walk Trust. Simply raised £2,500 after completing the walk, meaning that £1,250 was added to this amount. In total, a fantastic £3,750 was raised.
The money raised will allow every schoolchild to spend at least one afternoon per year in the garden, where they can spend time gardening, participating in arts and crafts or remembering Sarah and their loved ones.
In addition to this, Quilters Junior School is working alongside Simply to make improvements to the garden, maximising learning opportunities for the pupils. This includes introducing the opportunity for children to grow their own fruit and vegetables which will be used in the school kitchen.
Ruth Napp, Managing Director of Simply, says: “We thoroughly enjoyed visiting Sarah’s garden with Quilters Junior School’s teachers and pupils and remembering Sarah. The amount that has been raised for Sarah’s Garden is amazing and this is an achievement that both myself and my team are incredibly proud of. Throughout 2020, we look forward to working closely with Quilters Junior School to support the running of the garden as well as participating in the Fun Walk again in the hope to raise even more funds for the garden which can be used in 2021.”
Michael Wade, Headteacher of Quilters Junior School adds: “Everyone at Simply did a tremendous job with the fundraising for Sarah’s Garden. We are over the moon with the incredible amount of money raised for the school in memory of a truly fantastic teacher, Sarah Cobb. It was fantastic to be able to celebrate this success on Thursday 23 January with Simply, the Fun Walk Trust team and our pupils. This money will allow all of our pupils to enjoy Sarah’s Garden, learning new gardening skills whilst remembering their loved ones.”
