17 Jul Local Braintree team win Euros competition
Following England’s semi-final win at the Euro’s, Fusion Lifestyle – who operate leisure centres in Braintree – are delighted to announce that Great Bradford (GB) U9 Harrier’s are the last winners in their initiative, designed to support grassroots football teams.
Every time the England team won a match in the Euros, Fusion donated a prize of £500 worth of support or kit, to a grassroots club.
Nominations poured in from supporters of the club and GB U9 Harrier’s were a firm favourite with the judging panel. With 11 players in their recently formed under 9’s squad, competing in the Blackwater and Dengie League, the team love spending time together.
Formed part way through the last season, the team endured a few months of losing games but their hard work, practice, passion, and determination paid off, and the boys started winning games and becoming a real team of good players and friends. The planned coach for the team fell through and parents have volunteered and stepped up to help the boys continue to play and have fun.
The team are thrilled with the win. Coach, Marc Jameson, commented: “We are thrilled to win this prize. The team have been playing in hand me down kit and it’s already too small for some of them, so we are planning to use the money to buy new kit for the team. We believe the new kit will give them courage and confidence. I would like to thank all the parents for entering the competition, and for their continued support. I hope we have a good season next year and can put a smile on everyone’s faces.”
Anthony Cawley, Fusion Lifestyle CEO, added: “We would like to congratulate GBFC U9 Harriers on their win. Much like the rest of the nation, Fusion got behind the England team this summer, and we created this initiative to show our support for grassroots football.”
