28 Jun Local Braintree pupils leave letters for the future with the help of housebuilder
This week Year 6 pupils from Bocking Primary School, Braintree, joined independent housebuilder Dandara to bury a time capsule in tribute to their local area and name the new horse statue at Dandara’s Towerlands Park development on Panfield Road.
In honour of the place they call home, pupils visited the development, equipped with items for the time capsule with the theme “What I love about Braintree”. Artwork, creative writing pieces, development plans and photography and a Dandara mug were among the mementos places in the time capsule, which will be discovered and enjoyed by future generations in Braintree. The visit was also an opportunity to welcome and mark the start of a new beginning for Towerlands Park homebuyers, with the development’s horse statue named “Starlight”, as suggested by the pupils.
Hannah Cagney, Headteacher at Bocking Primary School, said: “The curation of this time capsule has been such an exciting activity for our pupils over the last few weeks. It has helped the children to foster an appreciation for their area, by selecting items that represent what Braintree means to them, and has also tied in nicely to our ‘Building Bocking’ topic, looking at careers in the construction industry.”
“Many thanks to Dandara, who have facilitated such an interesting activity for our pupils. I have no doubt that the children will be telling their own kids, in years to come, about the items they buried in Towerlands Park and their involvement in naming the iconic statue at the entrance of the development.”
Rachel Lindop, Head of Sales at Dandara Eastern, said: “It’s wonderful to get young people engaged with the future in such an exciting way and have the pupils visit the development to see the horse statue they named in person.
“We hope the pupils enjoyed their visit to Towerlands Park and can’t thank them enough for their exciting time capsule contributions that we look forward to being discovered by future Braintree residents!”
Braintree is a delightful location, and we have no doubt that homebuyers at Towerlands Park will agree with the pupils of Bocking Primary School that it certainly is a place to love.”
The Towerlands Park development consists of new three, four and five-bedroom houses, with prices starting from £395,000 for a three-bedroom home.
