05 May More lights working in Essex
The number of faulty streetlights in Essex is dropping, according to latest statistics.
Essex County Council has published its latest quarterly report on defective streetlights analysed by district.
In the three months to March 31, the number of faulty streetlights averaged across the county’s 12 districts stood at just 2.27 per cent – just above the Council’s two per cent target – but an improvement from 3.16 in the previous quarter.
A spokesperson for Essex County Council said: “We are confident of continuing the recent improving trend, and we would ask people to help by reporting any kind of fault or damage to a streetlight on our website at www.essexhighways.org.”
“Streetlight maintenance remains a key priority for our highways service and our engineers will continue to constantly monitor all the lights to ensure the network is operating at an optimum level.”
Essex Highways maintains 127,000 streetlights. Its routine repair programme saw thousands repaired during this period.

Brentwood – 4.38
Castle Point – 2.68
Chelmsford – 2.03
Colchester – 1.29
Epping Forest – 2.47
Harlow – 1.58
Maldon – 1.43
Rochford – 2.74
Tendring – 2.06
Uttlesford – 1.70
Essex is the third largest local lighting authority in the country.
