Leprosy charity golfing event comes to Ipswich

29 Jun Leprosy charity golfing event comes to Ipswich

Colchester based health charity ‘Lepra’ is hosting a fundraising golf day on Wednesday 20th September 2023 at Ipswich (Purdis Heath) Golf Club, which is consistently ranked by Golf World in the top 100 Golf Courses in England.

The event takes place in the lead-up to their centenary in January. Lepra has a long history of supporting people affected by neglected tropical diseases, and their research arm has contributed to developing new drug treatments and innovative, person-centred care for people affected by diseases such as leprosy. Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, was patron of Lepra, and a long-term supporter of the charity, often attended events and travelling to meet people affected by the disease.
“Leprosy is often thought of as a disease of the past, but it still exists and continues to cause preventable disabilities. With over 3 million people across the globe still living with undiagnosed leprosy, Lepra provide free detection, treatment, rehabilitation, mental health support, advocacy and health system strengthening, supporting some of the world’s most vulnerable people.” – Lepra CEO Jimmy Innes

This fun fundraising event will help directly support Lepra’s projects in endemic areas of Bangladesh and India. Participants will be playing the full 18 holes, with ‘longest drive’ and ‘nearest the pin’ competitions, lunch and a two-course supper provided. Complete with prizes and awards for our winners, this unforgettable day will help Lepra improve the lives of some of the world’s most hard to reach communities.
