26 Jul Leading Essex law firm Ellisons Solicitors announces merger with Gross & Co.
Leading law firm, Ellisons Solicitors, is announcing a merger with Bury St Edmunds-based firm Gross & Co. which will take place on 1st August 2019. This merger will provide Ellisons with a London base. Ellisons now has seven offices in total, including its head office in Colchester.
Following the success of the Chelmsford office which opened in 2018, Ellisons has been keen to extend its reach into the London market. The expansion into Chelmsford and this new presence in London has been part of a strategic progression for the firm, which has almost doubled in size over the past four years.
Integral to its success is Ellisons’ commitment to delivering excellent client service from start to finish; an ethos shared by Gross & Co.
Established in 1848, Gross & Co. will bring a high level of complementary expertise and 25 additional staff into the Ellisons ‘fold’. With its reputation for immigration and charity law, Gross & Co. will help to bolster Ellisons’ offering nationally and internationally, and the newly-merged entity will be known as ‘Ellisons incorporating Gross & Co.’ for an initial period.
All current staff at Gross & Co. will continue in their roles and remain in the Grade II-listed premises on Guildhall Street, Bury St Edmunds. Senior Partner, Graeme Kirk and Finance Partner, Sohan Sidhu will continue as Partners, while Elizabeth Hodder will remain in her role as head of the Family team in Bury St Edmunds. Graeme Kirk will also take a place on Ellisons’ Management Board, the body responsible for the firm’s overall management and strategy.
Both Graeme and Sohan are listed in the Who’s Who Legal 2019, which recognises leading international solicitors in their specialist fields. They are the only East Anglian solicitors to be recognised for the specialism of Corporate Immigration Law, with entry to the publication achieved by nomination from lawyers around the world. Graeme and Sohan are also featured in the Legal 500 and have advised and assisted many East Anglian businesses in relation to UK immigration issues.
Commenting on the merger, Graeme said: “I’m very excited to see Gross & Co. become part of a bigger ship, and I believe that there is great potential for growth on both sides. I very much look forward to seeing what the future holds for Ellisons incorporating Gross & Co. and its talented team.”
Guy Longhurst, Managing Partner at Ellisons said: “We are delighted to be announcing this merger with Gross & Co., not least because there is so much synergy between our firms. We truly believe that our respective service offerings and firm cultures are as near perfect a match as you’ll ever find. We are confident that our new and existing clients and colleagues will benefit from the greater opportunities and services presented by the merger with Gross & Co.”
