30 Nov Laindon woman fined for fly-tipping on public footpath
A woman has been fined and ordered to pay costs after being found guilty of dumping waste and recycling bags and a children’s playhouse on a public footpath.
Gemma Bayly, 35, of Orchid Place, Laindon, appeared at Basildon Magistrates Court on Monday 26 November charged with fly-tipping under Section 33 of the Environmental Protection Act 1990. She was found guilty of dumping black bags, pink bags and the playhouse on a public footbath running between Orchid Place and Primula Court.
Magistrates ordered her to pay a £200 fine, as well as costs of £200 and a victim surcharge of £30.
Councillor Kevin Blake, Chairman of the Leisure, Culture and Environment Committee, said: “We are committed to ensuring those who fly-tip are held to account, which is why we expanded our Street Scene Enforcement and Education Team by two officers. We have also invested £10,000 into a CCTV trial to target areas where the largest and most frequent fly-tips take place, ensuring we have the evidence to identify and prosecute perpetrators.
“We understand that most residents do the right thing with their waste to keep neighbourhoods clean and tidy, but unfortunately there are a small minority who let parts of the borough down. This case proves that we are not afraid to use our powers to prosecute those who blight communities.”
