LABOUR’S Pat McFadden says the party still needs to “work every day” to gain the trust of the British public.
Keir Starmer is currently a long way ahead of Rishi Sunak and the Tories in the polls.
But Mr McFadden said there is no chance of the opposition becoming complacent.
He told GB News: “I can assure you there’s no setting back or anything like that and the warning against that comes from Keir Starmer himself. But he doesn’t really need to warn us because, given the four election defeats that we’ve had since we left office, we know that we have to work every day to gain the trust of the British people.
“We’re very conscious of the responsibility to do that. People haven’t been voting Labour in big enough numbers in recent years. We’re very keen to turn that around so I can assure you there’ll be no sitting back. We know that we have to work for people’s trust, and we’re determined to do that.”
