12 Apr JACKIE DOYLE-PRICE DEMANDS GOVERNMENT TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR AIR QUALITY
by Jacqui Tucker
Thurrock MP, Jackie Doyle-Price has expressed her dismay at the governments decision regarding solving traffic at Dartford Crossing and has demanded the government take responsibility for air quality in Thurrock.
Acknowledging the need for a new route to ease the congestion at Dartford, Ms Doyle-Price said “I have consistently told the Government that any new crossing must not lead to more congestion on Thurrock’s roads. Neither should it lead to more congestion on the M25 and A13 or a new junction on the M25 in Thurrock”
She now argues that the proposed Route 3 fails all these tests and will in fact cause bigger problems for their air quality problems in Thurrock. The borough’s rising air pollution has been mostly credited to the nearby Dartford Crossing.
It’s been an ongoing Theory that The Government believes that by getting the traffic moving this will go a long way to sorting out the air quality issues.
Jackie Doyle-Price added “I am going to hold them to that. If the Government is going to impose a major new road on us it needs to take responsibility for our air quality. I will be demanding meetings with Ministers in DEFRA and in the Department of Transport to make sure that they take action to improve our air.”
