International recognition for Colchester General Hospital

09 Mar International recognition for Colchester General Hospital

Three key departments at Colchester General Hospital have received international recognition for their continued commitment to delivering the highest standards of patient safety.
The Sterile Services Department has achieved registration to the latest version of ISO13485, while the Medical Physics/Radiotherapy and Electro-Biomedical Engineering Departments (EBME) have both achieved compliance to the requirements of the new ISO9001 standard.

The International Standards Organisation (ISO) awards, all of which have been come within the past few months, underline the trust’s continued commitment to patient safety. They follow rigorous independent assessments by the British Standards Institute, and show Colchester is effectively managing risk and its resources and has well-trained staff and efficient processes in place.
Neill Moloney, managing director at the hospital, said: “We are really pleased to have achieved these updated standards.

Our trust is one of the first nationally to have been awarded the new standards across three departments, which is a fantastic achievement and something of which our staff should be proud.
”The public and patients can take confidence from these awards. They are international recognition of our commitment to patient safety and demonstrate that we have appropriate systems and processes in place. Not only do they show that we are conforming to best practice, but also that we are prepared to demonstrate compliance through external assessment.”

Assessors from the British Standards Institute will revisit the EBME department every year and the Sterile Services and Medical Physics/ Radiotherapy departments every six months to make sure that standards are being maintained and improved upon.
