17 Feb Inside Southchurch Scout’s “comforting” visit to Southend Hospital
The 2nd Southchurch Scout group recently visited the Chemotherapy Unit at Southend University Hospital to deliver comfort bags to the patients having chemotherapy.
The comfort bags contain a variety of items to help the patients feel more relaxed whilst having their treatment and include tissues, wet wipes, gloves, socks, mints, snack bars, colouring books or puzzle books, pencils, hand cream and lip balm.
Claire Brown, Group Scout Leader of the group, who also works in Pharmacy at the hospital, commented on the visit saying: “Each year we try and pick something to do for the local community that can give the Beavers, Cubs and Scouts something towards badge work.
“All the items in the gift bags and hampers were donated by the Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and parents. We’ve received many grateful comments from patients and staff so it has proved to be a huge success. It is definitely something we would consider doing again.
