The pioneer of ultrafast grocery delivery Getir, analysed UK Google search and social media data to unveil the new and emerging cocktail trends for summer 2023 and reveal that the ‘Hugo Spritz’ is THE drink set to take over garden parties.
Analysing searches for over 100 different cocktails paired with search terms such as ‘recipe’ and ‘how to make’, Getir looked at which drinks and their recipes have seen the biggest increase in search growth over the past year.
Getir reports that it’s the ‘Hugo Spritz’ – a crisp and refreshing twist on the beloved Aperol Spritz – that has seen the biggest search growth over the past year out of all the cocktails analysed and is set to become ‘’the new Aperol’’.
Whilst search demand for beloved ‘Aperol Spritz recipe’ has seen a 15% increase over the past year, UK search demand for this crisp ‘Hugo Spritz’ alternative has seen a huge 281% increase over the past year. There’s been a massive 18,220 searches for the drink and recipe related terms over the past month alone.
The demand comes as the drink has gone viral on TikTok, with the #hugospritz raking in over 4.3 million views.
Mixologist shares how to make a refreshing Hugo Spritz
With ‘staying in’ being the new ‘going out’ amid the soaring cost of going out, Getir’s advisory Mixologist, Luke Slater, and founder of the The Cask Connoisseur, shares how to make this trending tipple.
Luke says, ‘’Originating in the South Tyrol region of Italy, the Hugo Spritz is a refreshing and light cocktail – perfect for a warm day. How to make:
St Germain Elderflower Liqueur, 60 ml
Prosecco or sparkling wine, 90 ml
Soda water, 30 ml
Fresh mint leaves (optional)
Lemon or lime wedge (optional)
‘’Fill a glass with ice cubes, then pour in the elderflower liqueur. Add the prosecco and top it up with soda water. Stir gently to combine and then garnish with fresh mint or a lemon wedge.’’
