Housebuilder Supports Bug Hunt at Linmere’s ‘Summer in the Park’ Event

Recent research has shown that from over 2,000 studies, human activity is accelerating species loss across the globe[1]. In response, local housebuilder Barratt North Thames is supporting nature-led events this summer, having sponsored a Bug Hunt event at Linmere’s ‘Summer in the Park’ which took place on 24th August.
The free, family-friendly event hosted by The Land Trust and the Linmere team on Sunday 24th August attracted over 200 residents. Along with the Bug Hunt event, the three-hour celebration included rock climbing, storytelling, games, pump track sessions and refreshments.

The Bug Hunt provided a hands-on nature activity for the Linmere community, inviting families to look for bugs, insects, and little creatures in Linmere Park. Using sweep nets and magnifiers, participants collected, observed, and identified little creatures like grasshoppers, true bugs, beetles, and butterflies before releasing them back to the nature. The equipment provided will also help to support future nature-based events for the Linmere community.

Marc Woolfe, Sales and Marketing Director at Barratt North Thames, commented: “From wildlife discoveries to outdoor activities, ‘Summer in the Park’ had the local community enjoying and exploring Linmere. It was uplifting to see the residents partaking in the Bug Hunt event, learning about the local wildlife and living organisms. Supporting the Bug Hunt at the park is a great way to promote local biodiversity, we hope this helped local residents connect with nature in a hands-in and memorable way.”

Marlen Gray, Estates and Community Officer Linmere at The Land Trust added: “‘Summer in the Park is all about bringing people together to enjoy everything Linmere has to offer from wildlife and wellbeing, to play and community. Throughout the day, children raced through the activities, and volunteers recorded a wide range of plant and animal species, creating a snapshot of the park’s vast wildlife thanks to the brilliant addition of the Bug Hunt this year. The event was not only a fun day out, but also helped families discover the rich biodiversity right here in the park and understand why protecting it matters.”

Barratt North Thames’ Linmere development offers a selection of brand-new one- and two- bedroom apartments starting from £215,000 and three, four and five-bedroom houses with prices starting at £427,500.
Buyers can also make use of Barratt Homes’ Key Worker Deposit Contribution Scheme, which is available to those in professions such as teaching, NHS and the police force. As a thank you to the support provided to local communities, for every £20,000 spent on the purchase price of a brand-new property, Barratt Homes will contribute £1,000 towards buyers’ deposits – up to £15,000[2].
