21 Jul HOMEBUILDER’S STAFF PEDAL FOR CHARITY IN BRENTWOOD BIKE RIDE
Staff from Chelmsford-based Barratt and David Wilson Homes recently took to their bikes for two worthy causes, participating in a charity bike ride around the picturesque Brentwood district.
The event, organised to raise funds for the H-ABC Foundation UK and Mid and South Essex Hospitals Charity (MSE Charity), saw enthusiastic employees pedalling together to make a positive impact, raising over £3,960 (£1,980 each) for the charities.
A total of 33 employees participated, including one group of 10 riders who completed a route of 15 miles, and another group of 23 riders who took on a 25-mile route. Both groups cycled a collective total of 725 miles, starting their journeys from the visitor centre at Thorndon Country Park.
The carefully planned routes offered both a leisurely and a challenging experience for participants of varying skill levels. Midway through their journey, the riders enjoyed a well-deserved lunch provided by Barratt and David Wilson Homes, before completing their routes and returning to the starting point.
At the conclusion of the ride, participants were presented with certificates to commemorate their achievement and contribution to the cause.
Tom Wright, Managing Director at Barratt and David Wilson Homes Eastern Counties, said: “We are incredibly proud of our team for their commitment and enthusiasm in supporting these two important charities.
“The charity bike ride was a tremendous success, and it was wonderful to see everyone getting involved and active for such great causes. We’d like to thank RSK Land and Development Engineering and RSK Geosciences, part of RSK Group for sponsoring the T-shirts of the riders on the day.
“The effort and dedication shown by our staff has been truly inspiring, and we are delighted to contribute to the H-ABC Foundation UK and the Mid and South Essex Hospitals Charity.”
H-ABC Foundation UK was established in 2019 when four UK parents connected after their children were diagnosed with H-ABC Leukodystrophy – a disease that slowly takes away the ability to walk, talk and eat. Since then, the charity has been working with a parent-led biotech and is close to clinical trials for gene therapy treatment.
The charity also runs a family grant programme that was set up in 2022, in a bid to support families with a child with H-ABC around the UK.
MSE Charity is an official NHS charity which works to improve the hospital environments at Southend, Basildon, and Broomfield Hospitals, as well as smaller community-based sites, with extra comforts, state-of-the-art equipment, funds for ground-breaking research, and support to the development and training of hospital staff.
