13 Nov Help Make Christmas Day Festive for Lonely, Older People in Southend
On Christmas Day, 2018, Age Concern Southend will be once again hosting their free Christmas day dinner for older people across Southend.
Loneliness has been proven to be as bad for the health as smoking 15 cigarettes a day and Christmas can be especially hard for those who are estranged from family or bereaved.
In Southend, over 6,500 older people live on their own and may find themselves with no friends or family locally to share the festive season with.
Christmas dinner will be open to any over 60’s who would otherwise be on their own and will include a home cooked Christmas dinner and entertainment and each attendee will be given a present or two to open. Over 30 people are already booked to attend.
Age Concern Southend are looking for help from the local community to help provide food, presents, decorations or even to give a few hours of time to help as drivers, servers or musicians.
If you would be interested in attending or helping out please get in touch with the Age Concern Southend offices on 01702 345373 or by emailing [email protected].
