Hazel End Celebrates Trooping the Colour and the Queen’s Birthday

21 Jun Hazel End Celebrates Trooping the Colour and the Queen’s Birthday

Residents at Hazel End commemorated Trooping the Colour and The Queen’s 95th Birthday with a truly Royal Day! Trooping the Colour has marked the official birthday of the British Sovereign for over 260 years. Over 1400 parading soldiers, 200 horses and 400 musicians come together each June in a great display of military precision. This year was celebrated on a slightly smaller scale due to the covid pandemic. The parade took place at Windsor Castle rather than the larger parade in Central London.

Hazel End was adorned with patriotic union jack flags, bunting and more, in an effort to celebrate the special day. In the morning, residents watched the parade live on TV, with a very British cup of tea and flag in hand to wave. Lots of residents said how they had watched it every year and some even went to see Trooping the Colour rehearsals in London, making it a very important calendar day of the year.

One resident commented, ‘What a wonderful display, it makes me feel so proud to be British. The parade is just incredible they must train so hard to be all in sync like that, well done to them.’

Following the parade, there was plenty of reminiscing and some good old singalongs. Residents enjoyed a ‘Best of British’ party buffet, fit for royalty, to celebrate Her Majesty’s 95th birthday. Platters of party food, homemade scones and more were enjoyed for lunch and washed down with many cups of tea.

A resident said, ‘What an amazing spread, you have all done a brilliant job of laying on such a lunch, I think Lizzy would approve.’

There was even a special guest appearance from a life size cut out Her Majesty, The Queen, which really amused residents as it was so realistic.

George, Lifestyle Manager said, ‘Days like this are so important to remember and celebrate, especially for the older generation such as the residents of Hazel End, as the Royal Family has been the backbone of a lot of their lives, especially throughout the war. It was so lovely to see everyone enjoying themselves, singing and smiling, and the beautiful sunshine was a bonus!’.
