10 Oct Half-term entertainment is sorted at Chelmsford’s theatres
Parents looking for some great entertainment with their children this half-term have a bundle of fun to look forward to at Chelmsford’s Civic Theatre and Cramphorn Studio. From the latest online children’s sensation to well-loved TV characters and even Daleks, we have the school holidays sorted.
‘Little Baby Bum’ is the online and digital TV sensation, and it will be live at The Civic on Sunday 21 and Monday 22 October. Little Baby Bum is the world’s largest educational YouTube channel and the show brings the magical and colourful world of the channel to life. The brand-new live show combines puppetry, live action and digital action, with the audience encouraged to join the fun, dance and sing along with Mia, Jacus, Twinkle and their nursery rhyme friends.
On Tuesday 23 October ‘Milkshake Live !’ will be shaking things up at the Civic Theatre when Bob the Builder, Little Princess, Noddy, Fireman Sam and more favourite characters arrive on stage. The all singing, all dancing, musical extravaganza will take the audience on a journey through everyone’s favourite fairy tales direct from Milkshake’s ! magical bookcase. The show will also feature the Milkshake! Monkey and two Milkshake! presenters. The production is sure to delight all children aged 3 and up.
Children and adults will have a rare opportunity to see Dr Who on the big screen when ‘Dr Who and The Daleks’ (U) receives a special showing on Thursday 25 October. The film was originally released in 1965 and was the first celluloid outing for the Doctor, played by the classic British actor Peter Cushing. The film was shot in glorious technicolour and in the widescreen format, so the Daleks are bigger, brighter and much scarier than on the small screen! Inventive British science fiction at its best and rarely screened in cinemas these days. This is not to be missed in the half-term holiday, and will be screened at 2.30pm.
The Cramphorn Studio will be having ‘Goldilocks and The Big Bad Wolf’ both trying to outsmart each other to get the basket of cakes! The two well-known characters will be joined by some of their new friends, Goldie’s Grandad, Henry the Hen and Sarah the Snail. Will the Wolf learn to be patient, and will Goldilocks learn to tell the time? Will both understand that it is better to be nice to each other instead of being mean? The performance features songs, puppets, a little bit of learning and lots of fun, all in the intimate surroundings of the Cramphorn Studio on Friday 26 October.
The M&G Concerts kicks off with a family show on Saturday 27 October, ‘The Lullaby Concert’. The ‘musical puzzle’ will feature musicians from the City of London Sinfonia as they explore shapes, puzzles and amazing music, aided by presenter Claire Henry, who will work with the children to solve challenges and celebrate their musical quest. The children will become musicians themselves as they try the orchestral instruments. These wonderful musical experiences are now in their tenth year and are always very popular.
